Gifts and Passions

I figured I should start my first blog post with a little background information on myself and why I’m even bothering to write this.

Once upon a time, at band camp, I met a guy named Matt and we became friends.

Fast forward 4 years.  There I am, 21 and pregnant.  It was at that moment that I was thrust into Momness.  I knew I could get out of it, but I decided, with the support of the previously mentioned Matt, that becoming parents was a good thing.

Fast forward another 4 years. There’s me standing in the middle of my kitchen, crying hysterically because I feel like I have no passion, no calling, no reason for life. Did I mention I was 7 months pregnant? Must have been the hormones taking a brief moment of control.

Through the next couple of months, things at work started changing and things at home changed even more.  With all of these changes, I found myself working more and staying at home with my children less.  Then I got offered a position to move up in The Company.  The only catch: it’s an hour commute from home. Each way.  And while on the phone with my mom, discussing the possible job change, it hit me like a sack of potatoes.

My passion is my family, especially my children.

So this blog will be about my children.  How I’m striving to be a mom who imprints fantastical memories in her children’s brains.  How I am managing 2 kids under the age of 5, a full time job, a household, a budget and a healthy lifestyle.

If you’re like me, you life is a cluttered mess.  Nearly every aspect of my life is. I do too much and I have too much. And frankly, that is not how my children, or any children, deserve to live. So the first thing on my to do list in order to change this, is making a Top 10 Priority list.  This week, I am going to take a hard look at our activities and lifestyle and put them to the test:  Where does this fall on my list of priorities, if at all?

If you want to change your life, I suggest you do the same.

Here’s my list:

1. God

2. Matt

3. Children

4. My family’s health, especially mine

5. The household

6. Extended family/ friends who count as family

7. Work

8. Friends

9. Reading

10. Hospitality

How are you going to spend your week?
